Bangkok: The "Rajamanu Task Force" is implementing stringent measures to prevent the smuggling of "illegible oil" into Myanmar, aiming to capitalize on increased demand while adhering to government directives.
According to Thai News Agency, Colonel Natthakorn Ruentip, Chief of Staff of the 4th Infantry Regiment, emphasized that the interception of smuggled oil aligns with government orders and is a mission they are required to support. Recently, the task force seized more than 20,000 liters of oil on the Thai side, which was not intended for gas stations and was discovered in unauthorized areas. It is suspected that the oil was meant to be transported across the Thai-Myanmar border, where trade continues via various channels. Despite the focus on oil, the actions of customs officials are governed by strict adherence to government mandates aimed at eradicating smuggling activities.
Colonel Natthakorn also acknowledged the demand for oil in neighboring countries, driven by high oil prices in Myanmar. He noted that Thailand is involved in smuggling efforts to take advantage of the price disparity between the two countries.
