Students Showcase Creativity and Camaraderie at Chiang Mai Boat and Tug-of-War Competition

Chiang mai: Students at Chiang Mai Commercial Technology College engaged in a spirited competition featuring homemade boats and tug-of-war contests, strengthening bonds between senior and junior participants. The event, which celebrated the college's 60th anniversary, saw students race boats crafted from recycled materials, with participants from each department presenting their uniquely themed vessels.

According to Thai News Agency, the competition highlighted creativity and sustainability, with boats constructed from recycled car tires, plastic bottles, and wood scraps. The event took place in the Chiang Mai moat, with students from different departments, such as Electronics, Computer, and Automotive Engineering, showcasing boats with themes ranging from Titanic and Lanna-style to Minecraft and Grab delivery. The festive atmosphere was amplified by enthusiastic cheers from students and supervising teachers lining the moat.

Adding an element of humor and unpredictability, the Tourism Department's Titanic-themed boat provided amusement when a rower fell overboard, and the entire team was sent overboard as the boat sank. The Architecture Department's rendition of the Titanic also ended with the iconic ship sinking dramatically, much to the delight of spectators.

The tug-of-war competition was a highlight, featuring two boats tied together with a rope, each with two paddlers. Teams raced to seize a 100-baht note attached to the rope. In a closely contested race, the automotive engineering team faced off against Far Eastern University students, with the former eventually securing victory after a rerun due to a broken rope. The final race saw the automotive engineering department's green boat team competing against the tourism department's blue boat team. Although the automotive team initially had the advantage, a miscalculation led to them losing by default, handing the tourism team the championship.

The event concluded with a roaring celebration as the tourism department's team was declared the champions of the year. The competition not only provided entertainment and exercise but also fostered unity among the students, making it an unforgettable day for all involved.
