Bangkok: "Suchart" orders the Department of Mineral Resources to monitor the geological disaster situation, including landslides, 24 hours a day, and to provide information to relevant agencies. Mr. Suchart Chomklin, Minister of Natural Resources and Environment, expressed concern for the people in high-risk areas in the northern region prone to landslides and flash floods. He instructed the Department of Mineral Resources to continuously monitor, track, and forecast landslide-prone areas, especially those experiencing heavy and prolonged rainfall between August 31st and September 4th, 2026. These areas include the northern provinces of Nan, Phrae, Uttaradit, Chiang Mai, Chiang Rai, Phayao, Mae Hong Son, and Tak; the central province of Kanchanaburi; and the eastern province of Trat. The Minister also ordered the assessment and identification of high-risk areas to prepare for the situation and coordinate with the geological disaster warning network of over 45,000 people in high-risk areas.

According to Thai News Agency, people in high-risk areas are advised to closely monitor weather information and rainfall amounts, especially in areas experiencing heavy rainfall exceeding 100 mm/24 hours. They should be observant of warning signs such as muddy water, the presence of debris floating in the water, and be prepared for evacuation to safe locations. Furthermore, 24-hour watch teams should be on standby.

Mr. Yongyuth Nakaviroj, Director-General of the Department of Mineral Resources, stated that the Department of Mineral Resources, through its Geohazard Operations Center, will closely monitor the situation 24 hours a day. They will provide data on landslide-prone areas to the War Room of the Department of Disaster Prevention and Mitigation. This data will be used to issue warnings to the public in high-risk areas via cell broadcast, and will also support the Flood Relief Coordination Center of the Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment with information and reports on the situation and flood relief efforts.
