Suchatvee Urges Thailand to Enhance Diplomatic Strategy Amid US Trade Negotiation Suspension

Bangkok: Suchatvee Suwansawat, leader of the Thai Move Forward Party, has advised Thailand to adopt a sharp diplomatic approach in response to the United States’ decision to suspend tariff negotiations. He cautioned against political maneuvers that could adversely affect the nation’s economy.

According to Thai News Agency, Mr. Suchatvee highlighted concerns on November 16, 2015, following the Deputy United States Trade Representative’s announcement that bilateral trade negotiations with Thailand would be put on hold. The negotiations are set to resume only after Thailand commits to the peace declaration. He pointed out the potential detrimental effects of focusing solely on political issues, emphasizing that Thailand’s economic stability relies on maintaining strong relationships with superpowers like the United States and China.

Mr. Suchatvee cited Vietnam and Turkey as examples of nations navigating complex geopolitical landscapes by engaging with multiple superpowers, leading to economic benefits. He str
essed the importance of Thailand adopting a similar strategy to avoid economic downturns and safeguard the well-being of its citizens.

The Thai Move Forward Party leader underscored the necessity for Thailand to remain vigilant in addressing political issues that may intertwine with diplomatic and economic concerns. The priority, he insisted, should be protecting the national interest and ensuring the prosperity of the Thai people.
