Nonthaburi: Sumo Kik and the Kitcharoen family have been awarded the Harmonious Family Award for Celebrity of the Year 2026. The award was presented during the opening ceremony of the 2026 Senior Citizens' Day and Family Day, which was presided over by Prime Minister and Minister of Interior Anutin Charnvirakul. The event, held under the theme "Bow, Kneel, Hug the Elderly: Building Strong Thai Families," also saw the Minister of Social Development and Human Security, Nikorn Somklang, delivering a report and presenting other significant awards.
According to Thai News Agency, the ceremony took place at the Grand Diamond Ballroom, IMPACT Forum, Muang Thong Thani, where various awards were distributed. These included the National Senior Citizen Award 2026 to Mr. Suthichai Yoon and the Harmonious Family Award for Distinguished Individuals 2026 to the Kitcharoen family. Additionally, the provinces of Nakhon Ratchasima, Nong Bua Lamphu, and Phayao were recognized for their efforts in expanding senior citizen schools to every sub-district.
Mr. Kantapong Rangsisawang, Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Social Development and Human Security, led the award ceremony for outstanding contributions in promoting elderly care networks. Awards were also given to organizations promoting employment and income for the elderly, individuals in family development, and community family development centers excelling in promoting family strength.
The Kitcharoen family, led by Kiat Kitcharoen, known as Sumo Kik, attended the ceremony with his wife, son, and daughter-in-law, Paowalee. Sumo Kik expressed his pride and happiness upon receiving the award, emphasizing the importance of family. He stressed that family is a source of genuine joy and comfort, urging others to appreciate the small joys within their families.
Paowalee, the family's new daughter-in-law, shared her happiness about the family becoming more complete with her presence. She encouraged family members to express their love and support for one another, especially during the festive season of Songkran, to rejuvenate and prepare for future challenges.
