Sun Directly Overhead in Bangkok for the First Time This Year

Bangkok: At 12:16 PM today, the sun is directly overhead in Bangkok. This marks the first instance this year of such a phenomenon occurring in the city.

According to Thai News Agency, the National Astronomical Research Institute of Thailand (NARIT) reported that during April and May, the sun will be directly overhead in various parts of Thailand for the first time this year. This sequence began in Betong District, Yala Province, at the southern tip of the country on April 4, 2026, and will conclude at Mae Sai District, Chiang Rai Province on May 22, 2026.

For Bangkok, the sun being directly overhead means that objects outdoors will cast minimal shadows, giving them a shadowless appearance. While the city is set to receive maximum sunlight today, NARIT cautions that this may not result in the hottest day of the year. Factors such as cloud cover, rain, monsoon influence, and accumulated heat can all affect the temperature. The next occurrence of the sun being directly overhead in Bangkok is expected on August 16, 2026, at approximately 12:22 PM.
