Bangkok: Supachai Jaisamut, a candidate for MP and a leading figure in the Bhumjaithai Party, has filed charges with the Election Commission and the Cyber Crime Investigation Bureau against the People's Democratic Party (PDP) and its supporters. He accuses them of spreading fake news and defamation, particularly through online platforms.

According to Thai News Agency, Supachai claims that these parties and their supporters have been spreading false and misleading information on social media, which distorts policies and party numbers. This misinformation includes altering the number associated with the Bhumjaithai Party and falsely linking it to Anutin, a name associated with the PDP, potentially misleading voters. He cited instances where Facebook posts urged people to vote for "number 46 nationwide," associating it with Anutin's policies, despite the fact that the Bhumjaithai Party's actual ballot number is 37 (pink ballot). Supachai argues that this constitutes a violation of Section 73 of the election law.

The Bhumjaithai Party also identified false and defamatory claims against them, such as accusations of advocating for the restoration of royal power, increasing penalties under Section 112, augmenting the monarchy's budget, and misrepresenting old policies from 2023 to create confusion about their current stance. Supachai asserts that the PDP has gained an unfair advantage from these misleading actions and has not taken steps to control their campaign managers or supporters, actions which may breach Section 132 of the Election Act.

Supachai announced that the Bhumjaithai Party intends to file a formal complaint with the Secretary-General of the Election Commission to prompt legal action. Additionally, they plan to approach the Cyber Crime Investigation Bureau to prosecute the individuals behind specific user accounts, such as 'Khiw Khiw' or 'Nutchuwin Muangkote,' who have allegedly posted these misleading messages to support the PDP. The party will also urge the Election Commission to take appropriate action against the PDP in compliance with election law.
