Bangkok: Deputy Prime Minister Supajee is preparing to set up an economic and trade advisory team to strengthen the government's capabilities on the global stage. The team is full of talented individuals.
According to Thai News Agency, Ms. Ratchada Thanadirek, spokesperson for the Prime Minister's Office, revealed that Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Commerce, Ms. Supajee Suthamphan, held discussions with economic and trade experts, including former ambassadors to Austria and Germany, a former ambassador to New Delhi, and former Thai trade representatives to the European Union. These individuals are currently being approached by the Deputy Prime Minister to form an advisory committee and a Thailand Trade Representatives (TTR).
The Deputy Prime Minister emphasized the importance of integrating knowledge from all sectors to ensure that policy-making is comprehensive and effectively addresses the needs of both the public and businesses. This discussion aimed to gather opinions covering macroeconomic issues, international trade, law, and business development in order to find ways to mitigate the impact of the current economic situation and prepare for future fluctuations.
At the same time, proactive long-term policies have been established to enhance Thailand's competitiveness amidst changes in global supply chains and geopolitics.
The panel of economic and trade experts invited to serve as advisors to the Deputy Prime Minister comprises distinguished individuals from diverse fields, including: Mr. Weerasak Kowsurat, former Minister of Tourism and Sports; Dr. Kobsak Pootrakul, Senior Vice President, Company Secretary and Executive Director, Bangkok Bank Public Company Limited; Dr. Piti Srisangnam, Executive Director, ASEAN Foundation, Jakarta; Mr. Nat Luangnarumitchai, capital market expert from the Stock Exchange of Thailand; Dr. Yanyong Thaicharoen, Chief Economist, Chief Research Officer for Economic and Sustainability, Economic and Business Research Center, Siam Commercial Bank (SCB EIC), and former Director of Monetary Policy, Bank of Thailand; Assoc. Prof. Dr. Arm Tangnirandorn, Director of the China Studies Center, Institute of Asian Studies; Dr. Pipat Luangnarumitchai, Managing Director, Chief Economist, Kiatnakin Phatra Financial Group, Kiatnakin Phatra Securities Public Company Limited; Mr. Poosit Rattanagul Serirengrit, forme r Director-General, Department of International Trade Promotion, Ministry of Commerce; and Mr. Anan Lapsuksatit, President, K Agro Innovate Institute, an expert in agriculture and agricultural processing.
This includes Ms. Nongnuch Petcharat, former Ambassador to the Republic of Austria and the Federal Republic of Germany; Mr. Chutintorn Kongsak, former Ambassador to New Delhi; and Mr. Veerapong Prapha, former Thai Trade Representative to the European Union, who were approached by the Deputy Prime Minister to form the Thailand Trade Representatives (TTR).
