Supamas Collaborates with Bangkok to Enhance Local Consumer Protection Services

Bangkok:Supamas Isarabhakdi, Minister attached to the Prime Minister's Office, is advancing consumer protection initiatives by collaborating with the Bangkok Metropolitan Administration (BMA) to bring services closer to residents and leverage digital tools for complaint tracking.

According to Thai News Agency, Ms. Supamas attended a meeting with the Consumer Protection Committee of the House of Representatives to discuss integrating efforts between the Office of the Consumer Protection Board (OCPB) and the BMA. This initiative aims to decentralize consumer protection responsibilities, allowing citizens easier access to aid and reducing the need for multiple agency contacts.

The meeting included key figures such as Mr. Pradermchai Boonchuaylue, Dr. Patcharin Samsiripong, Mr. Ronnarong Poolpipat, and BMA representatives. Ms. Supamas highlighted the government's commitment to addressing consumer grievances, emphasizing legal amendments to enhance consumer benefits and protection mechanisms.

Ms. Supamas noted that decentralization will increase public service channels, with BMA's district offices playing a crucial role in complaint reception and problem-solving. The CPB will support these efforts with legal guidance, staff training, and digital collaboration tools, ensuring consistent and accurate operations.

The "Bangkok Metropolitan Consumer Complaint System Prototype" was introduced by the CPB to streamline complaint handling and foster agency coordination. This system aims to reduce delays and enhance the learning and improvement of BMA's collaboration with the CPB.

Ms. Supamas reaffirmed the government's dedication to developing consumer protection in legal and service domains, ensuring reliable agency support and effective protection across the population. Citizens are encouraged to file complaints and seek advice through various OCPB channels, retaining proof of purchase for assistance.
