Bangkok:Supamas Isarabhakdi, Minister attached to the Prime Minister's Office, has directed the Consumer Protection Board to take swift action in assisting victims of a Japanese concert ticket scam. The directive aims to ensure the recovery of funds for those affected by the cancellation of the concert.
According to Thai News Agency, Ms. Supamas, in her capacity overseeing the Office of the Consumer Protection Board (OCPB), has instructed the OCPB to expedite the investigation and provide assistance to citizens who purchased tickets to the canceled concert in Japan. She has tasked Mr. Ronnarong Poolpipat, Secretary-General of the OCPB, with examining the ticket sales process, payment receipts, and refund procedures, and coordinating with relevant agencies to protect consumer rights.
Ms. Supamas highlighted that the action was prompted by complaints filed by "Hay Apaporn Nakhon Sawan" and a group of victims on October 26th concerning the concert's cancellation. She urged the CPB to quickly gather information from affected ticket buyers, verify refund statuses, and identify any obstacles to resolving the issues.
The CPB is set to review evidence of ticket purchases, payment methods, event terms, and business operations in Thailand to determine appropriate actions. If legal criteria are met, the CPB will expedite mediation for compensation and consider legal action for consumers. For cases beyond its jurisdiction, it will coordinate with the relevant agencies and clearly communicate procedures to complainants.
Ms. Supamas also instructed officials to scrutinize online ticket sale advertisements for false or exaggerated claims, with legal actions to follow if necessary. She emphasized the need for ongoing monitoring of consumer protection efforts and urged victims to retain proof of purchase and related documentation for investigation.
Affected individuals can submit information or complaints through the OCPB hotline 1166, the OCPB Connect application, the website www.ocpb.go.th, or at OCPB offices across the country.
