Supamas Unveils Comprehensive Consumer Protection Strategy with AI Integration

Bangkok: Supamas Isarabhakdi, Minister attached to the Prime Minister's Office and Chair of the Consumer Protection Committee, has launched a forward-thinking approach to consumer protection, spotlighting the "Consumer Protection Board Plus" policy across five dimensions. This initiative aims to leverage artificial intelligence (AI) in addressing challenges posed by the digital economy.

According to Thai News Agency, during the opening ceremony of "Thai Consumer Protection Day 2026" held at the Government Complex on Chaeng Wattana Road, Ms. Supamas emphasized the necessity of updating the consumer protection framework to align with the digital economy. The strategy is designed to ensure fairness, reduce living costs, and bolster public confidence. She highlighted the evolving risks in the digital age that necessitate a proactive stance from the Consumer Protection Board (CPB) to safeguard citizens' economic opportunities.

The event, which took place on April 29-30, 2026, underscored five key policy areas within the "Consumer Protection Board Plus Policy." The first area focuses on preemptive actions, emphasizing knowledge dissemination and empowering citizens to safeguard their rights proactively. Secondly, the development of a one-stop service system aims to streamline processes with clear procedures and timelines for fair problem resolution.

The third dimension involves stringent regulation of online platforms and e-commerce businesses, ensuring platforms are accountable to consumers. Fourthly, the integration of technology and AI is vital for detecting unfair practices, monitoring illegal activities, and improving public service accessibility through tools like the 1166 hotline and the "OCPB Connect" chatbot.

Lastly, the CPB is committed to operating as a "white organization," adhering to good governance principles, emphasizing honesty, transparency, and accountability, while being free from corruption and discrimination.

Ms. Supamas stated that the policy's success hinges on providing citizens with practical access to consumer protection, emphasizing speed, transparency, and fairness. The public can reach out to the OCPB hotline at 1166 or use the OCPB Connect application and website for assistance, available 24/7.
