Supercar Driver Testifies He Was Not Drunk, Prepared to Compensate if Found Guilty

Bangkok: The driver of a supercar involved in a fiery collision has testified to the police, maintaining that he was not under the influence of alcohol at the time of the incident. The father of the driver, who was present with his son and the son’s girlfriend at Thammasala Police Station, has stated that he is prepared to fully compensate the other parties involved if his son is found at fault.

According to Thai News Agency, the accident involved a Ferrari, a Benz, and a pickup truck, resulting in the Ferrari and Benz catching fire and being completely destroyed. Mr. Fia, the 23-year-old Ferrari driver, was reportedly still in shock from the collision. His father explained that the accident occurred as his son was driving home after dropping off his girlfriend. The Ferrari was traveling in the far right lane when a pickup truck allegedly cut in front of it. Mr. Fia attempted to brake but lost control, leading to a crash that involved the Benz following behind.

The father further detailed that the Benz ran over the roof of the Ferrari before the fire broke out. Fortunately, Mr. Fia was assisted by a good Samaritan who helped him exit the vehicle, and he was subsequently taken to the hospital for treatment. Although no serious internal injuries were reported, Mr. Fia experienced chest tightness and difficulty breathing, which were attributed to shock.

The father expressed uncertainty about his son’s account and refrained from assigning blame, emphasizing the need for police investigation and evidence, including CCTV footage, to determine the facts. He assured that regardless of the outcome, he is willing to offer assistance and compensation to all parties affected, adhering to both legal and humanitarian obligations, even though no injuries were reported apart from his son’s.

Efforts to communicate with the other drivers have been made, with Mr. Fia’s father meeting the pickup truck driver, who claimed he was hit from behind without cutting off the Ferrari. The discussion with the pickup truck driver was reportedly amicable, with both parties awaiting police clarification. However, there has been no contact with the Benz driver as of yet.

The Ferrari, valued at approximately 34 million baht and covered by first-class insurance, was purchased a year prior. While the family views the car as a replaceable asset, the father stressed the significance of human life and reiterated his guidance to his son regarding safe driving practices. He confirmed that his son does not drink and drive, particularly noting that no alcohol was consumed on the night of the incident.

Meanwhile, the Benz and pickup truck drivers have also visited Thammasala Police Station to negotiate compensation and provide statements to investigators.
