Bangkok: Early voting for the upcoming election is showing promising participation, with Mr. Suradech Yasawat urging the Election Commission to remain vigilant against potential vote-buying schemes.

According to Thai News Agency, Mr. Suradech, an independent politician and former deputy leader of the Palang Pracharath Party, expressed optimism regarding the high voter turnout, viewing it as an indication of the public's desire for a stable government. After casting his advance vote on Sukhumvit Road, he emphasized the need for a government capable of implementing long-term, sustainable policies without frequent shifts in political power.

Mr. Suradech highlighted the critical role of the Election Commission (EC) in curbing vote buying and selling, stressing the necessity of strict enforcement of election laws. He warned that scammers might infiltrate political parties as financiers, distributing money to voters and recuperating their investment post-elections, thereby undermining the democratic process.

He further expressed concern that the EC has previously struggled to apprehend those involved in such illegal activities, resulting in wasted public funds. Mr. Suradech called for rigorous action by the EC to ensure transparency and integrity in the electoral process.

Reflecting on his experience as a former senator and member of parliament, Mr. Suradech emphasized that electing corrupt individuals who engage in vote buying would harm the nation's development. He urged voters to reject monetary incentives and support candidates who demonstrate honest intentions and a commitment to public service.

Mr. Suradech also addressed concerns about potential disruptions to the February 8th election due to the Thai-Cambodian border dispute. He advised the public and the EC to remain focused on their duties and not to speculate about unforeseen events. He stressed the importance of vigilance, particularly in the seven provinces along the Thai-Cambodian border, to ensure that the election proceeds smoothly.
