Ayutthaya: "Surasak" visited Spanish tourists who were injured when a tree fell on them in Ayutthaya. One person remains in the ICU. He confirmed full compensation and assured them of safety measures.
According to Thai News Agency, Mr. Surasak Panjaroenvorakul, Minister of Tourism and Sports, traveled to Ayutthaya province to visit and check on the condition of four Spanish tourists who were injured in an accident on the afternoon of August 16th when a large peacock tree fell on a walkway near Wat Phra Sri Sanphet within the Ayutthaya Historical Park.
Regarding the injuries sustained by the four tourists, the latest update is that one male tourist has undergone surgery at Phra Nakhon Si Ayutthaya Hospital and is currently being closely monitored in the ICU. One female tourist is resting at the hospital while also being closely monitored. The other two female tourists sustained minor injuries, only minor abrasions, and were treated and deemed not requiring hospitalization. They were allowed to return home to rest. Officials from the Tourist Assistance Center (TAC) of Phra Nakhon Si Ayutthaya, along with tourist police, facilitated and escorted the two female tourists back to their accommodation. They have also assigned staff to continue coordinating and monitoring the tour group throughout their stay.
Mr. Surasak instructed agencies under the Ministry to coordinate and integrate their efforts with the Fine Arts Department and the Ayutthaya Historical Park to urgently survey the structural integrity of large trees along pathways within the historical site to prevent similar incidents from happening again. He also expressed his condolences for the incident and assured that the injured would receive the best possible medical care and treatment, demonstrating that Thailand has measures in place to respond quickly to medical emergencies and ensure the safety of visitors in all situations.
