Bangkok: Mr. Surawong Thienthong, Minister of Tourism and Sports and Secretary-General of the Pheu Thai Party, has called upon the media to halt the dissemination of rumors about a potential cabinet reshuffle, emphasizing that such matters fall under the purview of Prime Minister Paethongtarn Shinawatra. He expressed concern that continued speculation could disrupt governmental operations and denied any intention to reclaim ministries from coalition partners.
According to Thai News Agency, Mr. Surawong addressed the swirling rumors of a cabinet reshuffle, advising calm and reminding everyone of the transient nature of political landscapes. When questioned about potential changes in several ministries, he deferred to statements made by the Prime Minister, indicating that no immediate alterations are on the horizon.
Mr. Surawong highlighted the importance of stability in government operations, expressing that any speculation regarding ministerial changes could hinder the effectiveness of governmental work. He reiterated the Prime Minister’s commitment to maintaining the current cabinet structure and urged everyone to continue their duties as usual.
He also acknowledged the significance of public opinion and polling results in evaluating the government’s performance. Mr. Surawong mentioned that the Prime Minister remains attentive to the voices of both the people and the polls, ensuring that any decision made will prioritize the public interest.
When pressed about the possibility of extending the cabinet’s term or potential adjustments, Mr. Surawong stated that such decisions rest solely with the Prime Minister. He dismissed concerns about coalition parties’ dissatisfaction in the event of a reshuffle, asserting confidence in the Prime Minister’s judgment to act in the best interest of the nation.
Regarding the Pheu Thai Party’s position on controlling specific ministries, Mr. Surawong emphasized that the Prime Minister leads the government and will evaluate the performance of each ministry accordingly.
