Suriya Jungrungreangkit Leads Relief Efforts in Flood-Stricken Pua District

Nan: "Suriya" visits Pua District, wading through mud to help villagers! He sets up a mobile kitchen and dispatches water trucks to urgently clean houses. Mr. Suriya Jungrungreangkit, Minister of Agriculture and Cooperatives, spearheaded the flood relief efforts alongside a team from the Ministry of Agriculture and related agencies. Their mission was to assess and address the damage caused by recent flash floods and mudslides in Nan Province, particularly in Pua District where homes have been inundated with mud.

According to Thai News Agency, Prime Minister Anutin Charnvirakul has directed the Ministry of Agriculture to provide urgent support to the affected populace. Mr. Suriya noted that while the water levels in Nan city have surpassed the critical threshold, peaking at approximately 8.5 meters instead of the anticipated 9 meters, the densely populated economic hub has been spared from severe flooding. However, the districts of Phuping and Pua have suffered more significant impacts due to mudslides, prompting immediate action from the Royal Irrigation Department to deploy six water trucks for cleanup operations.

The Ministry of Agriculture has been proactive in distributing food and relief supplies, setting up mobile kitchens in Phuping District to combat food shortages. Restoration efforts are being accelerated as the floodwaters recede, with the aim of swiftly returning the affected areas to their pre-flood conditions.

Despite the challenges faced in Nan province, the influx of water is expected to replenish the Sirikit Dam in Uttaradit province by around 400 million cubic meters, which will aid in agricultural water management. The Ministry remains vigilant in monitoring the situation.

Mr. Witthaya Kaewmee, Director-General of the Royal Irrigation Department, emphasized the deployment of water pumps to expedite drainage from flooded zones. Officials have been instructed to keep the public informed about water levels to mitigate damage to homes, farmland, and economic areas.

Mr. Suriya has ordered the preparation of heavy machinery and water trucks to clear roads and facilitate the restoration of normalcy for local residents. He urged the people of Nan to stay informed through government communications and face this crisis collectively.
