Suspect in Nakhon Pathom Debt Collection Shooting Surrenders After Hostage Drama

Nakhon Pathom: The suspect in the brutal debt collection case has surrendered after a dramatic series of events that included the shooting of a debtor in front of her son and taking a vendor hostage. Police successfully persuaded the suspect’s mother and relatives, leading him to surrender and be taken for questioning at Nakhon Pathom City Police Station.

According to Thai News Agency, CCTV footage from Village 8, Wang Taku Subdistrict, Mueang Nakhon Pathom District, captured Mr. Niwat Changruenkun attempting to collect a debt from Ms. Walaiporn, aged 42. When he was unable to enter her rented room, he fired a gun through the window, proceeded to the back of the house, and kicked the door open. He then shot Ms. Walaiporn twice, killing her in front of her 11-year-old child, before fleeing on a motorcycle.

The son of the deceased recounted to police that the incident occurred around 6 am. His mother had attempted to calm Mr. Niwat, but he ignored her pleas, shooting through the glass door and eventually breaking in to commit the fatal act. The police found a 9 mm bullet casing at the scene, and Ms. Walaiporn was discovered in her pajamas, having been shot twice.

A nearby tenant reported that the deceased had rented the room for only three months and that Mr. Niwat had previously visited to collect money. On the morning of the incident, the tenant heard gunfire and witnessed Mr. Niwat fleeing the scene on a motorcycle.

Following the shooting, Mr. Niwat fled to his house in Sam Phran, taking a som tam vendor hostage en route. The police contacted his mother and relatives, who helped persuade him to surrender. The suspect’s mother admitted she was unaware of the incident and expressed confusion over her son’s actions.

Mr. Niwat has since surrendered and is undergoing questioning at Nakhon Pathom City Police Station.
