Bangkok: Suvarnabhumi Airport welcomed the Chinese New Year 2026 with a Thai-Chinese friendship show, exchanging souvenirs and conveying warm New Year greetings.
According to Thai News Agency, Suvarnabhumi Airport (BKK) organized a welcoming event for passengers to celebrate the Chinese New Year 2026, aiming to bring joy, warmth, and a positive impression to Chinese passengers arriving in Thailand. Ms. Paweena Jariyathitipong, President of Airports of Thailand Public Company Limited (AOT), and Mr. Kittipong Kittikhachorn, Director of Suvarnabhumi Airport, along with BKK executives, welcomed passengers and presented them with souvenirs and New Year greetings at a Chinese New Year photo booth located at baggage claim belts 11-12 on the 2nd floor of the passenger terminal. A performance titled "Thai-Chinese Friendship" was also presented to create a vibrant and auspicious atmosphere, leaving a lasting impression on passengers from the moment they arrive in Thailand and reinforcing BKK's commitment to providing memorable welcoming experiences during important festivals.
Ms. Paweena Jariyathitipong, President and CEO of AOT, revealed that during the Chinese New Year festival in 2026, from February 13-22, 2026, AOT has projected air traffic volume at Suvarnabhumi Airport (BKK) to be around 11,374 flights in total. This includes 8,546 international flights (averaging 855 flights per day) and 2,828 domestic flights (averaging 283 flights per day), an increase of 4.3 percent compared to the same period last year. The projected passenger volume is estimated at 1,971,050 people, comprising approximately 1,620,957 international passengers and 350,093 domestic passengers, averaging 197,105 passengers per day, an increase of 0.2 percent.
For flights from the People's Republic of China, approximately 444,255 passengers are expected, averaging 44,426 passengers per day, a 24.2% increase compared to the same period last year. There are also approximately 2,889 flights, averaging 289 flights per day, a 20.5% increase. In addition, several airlines have requested additional special and charter flights totaling 362 flights, comprising 123 domestic flights and 239 international flights. This reflects the continued recovery of air travel and the confidence of international tourists, particularly from the People's Republic of China.
Mr. Kittipong Kittikhachorn, Director of Suvarnabhumi Airport, stated that in preparation for accommodating passengers during the Chinese New Year festival, Suvarnabhumi Airport has integrated cooperation with relevant agencies to ensure passengers receive convenient, fast, and safe travel. Suvarnabhumi Airport has deployed sufficient staff at various points, including security personnel, baggage cart service staff, cleaning staff, security screening staff, and Airport Ambassadors. The airport has also coordinated with ground service providers to ensure sufficient personnel and equipment are available during peak hours. Furthermore, Chinese-speaking interpreters have been deployed to provide assistance and guidance to passengers, and the airport has collaborated with shops and restaurants to provide Chinese-language signs to facilitate travel for Chinese passengers.
