Bangkok: Taiwan is collaborating with Thailand to introduce innovative beauty products to the ASEAN market. The aesthetic medicine and healthcare industry in Southeast Asia is showing strong growth potential, and businesses and research institutions from Taiwan have started to enter the Thai market officially, with the aim of using Thailand as a gateway to the region.
According to Thai News Agency, on June 25, 2026, Taiwan's Metal Industry Research and Development Center (MIRDC) signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with the Thai Society of Aesthetic Plastic Surgery and Medicine (TACS). Mr. Wu Wei-hong, Vice Chairman of MIRDC, and Dr. Thanawat Chotima, President of TACS, signed the agreement, with Mr. Peter Lan, Director-General of the Taipei Economic and Cultural Office in Thailand, witnessing the proceedings.
The MOU outlines collaboration in four main areas: information exchange in the aesthetic medicine industry, development and training of medical personnel, sharing knowledge in clinical techniques, and joint marketing efforts. Mr. Wu Wei-hong emphasized Taiwan's strengths in the medical device industry supply chain, biotechnology, and high-precision manufacturing. He noted that Thailand's significant clinical resources and consumer influence in Southeast Asia make it an ideal partner, presenting opportunities for Taiwanese businesses to expand into the ASEAN market.
The signing event also included the "Taiwan-Thailand Workshop on Innovative Applications in Medical Aesthetics and Wound Care," supported by Taiwan's Ministry of Economic Affairs' Industrial Development Administration (IDA). The workshop featured major Taiwanese private companies like Smedtrum Medical Technology, TAICEND TECHNOLOGY, and ACRO BIOMEDICAL, showcasing innovations in photoelectric devices, biomaterials for wound care, and cosmetic dentistry.
Taiwan has also extended its collaborative efforts into education. WE-WIN BIO-MEDICAL CO., LTD. from Taiwan signed an MOU with Mahidol University's Faculty of Pharmaceutical Sciences to collaborate on biotechnology research and development, as well as product testing and certification.
