Taiwanese Authorities Detain Mother of Child Forced into Prostitution in Japan

Bangkok: The National Police Chief confirmed that Taiwanese authorities have arrested the mother of a 12-year-old child. The mother has been detained and there is an urgent request for her to be brought back to Thailand for questioning, as ordered by the Deputy National Police Chief.

According to Thai News Agency, Police General Kittirat Panpetch, the National Police Chief, addressed the case involving a 12-year-old girl who was taken to work in a massage parlor in Japan by her mother and forced into prostitution since June. The child subsequently filed a complaint with Tokyo police, leading to the arrest of the Japanese owner on November 4th. Taiwanese authorities have detained the child’s mother, and Police General Thatchai Pitaneelabutr, Deputy National Police Chief and Director of the Special Operations Center for Suppressing Technology Crime and Human Trafficking, has been assigned to coordinate with Taiwanese authorities to facilitate the mother’s return to Thailand for questioning.

Concerning the 12-year-old girl currently in Japanese custody, the Central Investigation Bureau’s Anti-Human Trafficking Division is working with relevant agencies to bring her back to Thailand. Upon her return, she will be subject to a fact-finding process in accordance with legal procedures, with a multidisciplinary team present to interrogate her. The classification of the incident as a criminal activity or an individual offense will be determined based on evidence and the fact-finding process, details of which are currently unavailable.
