Talks on outsider monk to be abbot of Wat Dhammakaya

Director of the National Office of Buddhism met this afternoon (Monday) with the provincial chief monk of Pathum Thani, Phra Thep Rattanasuthee, to follow up the progress of the NOB's proposal that an outsider should be appointed abbot of Wat Dhammakaya.

NOB director Pol Lt-Col Pongporn Promsaneh said Monday that his office didn't want an insider to be named the new abbot of Wat Dhammakaya because that would tarnish the image of the temple and, also, it would affect public confidence that investigation into various wrongful acts of senior monks of the temple would be fair and impartial.

Also, he said he would discuss with Phra Thep Rattanasuthee about the management of the temple's substantial wealth.
