Teng Denies Charges in Defamation Case at Criminal Court Hearing

Bangkok: Teng appeared in Criminal Court for a hearing to examine evidence in the defamation case against Gulf, reiterating his denial of all charges. He affirmed his innocence and expressed willingness to work with the opposition party, including Kla Tham. Meanwhile, supporters of the Orange Party presented him with roses as a show of support.

According to Thai News Agency, on February 16, 2026, Mr. Nattapong Ruangpanyawut, leader of the People's Party, along with his lawyer, entered the judicial process in a defamation case filed by Gulf Development Company. The company is seeking 100 million baht in damages for alleged losses stemming from a press conference where Mr. Nattapong raised concerns about the government's renewable energy procurement project.

Mr. Nattapong disclosed that he would be informed of the charges and plans to deny all of them, maintaining his innocence. He intends to provide further details in an interview after his court testimony.

He also commented on government formation efforts led by Mr. Anutin Charnvirakul, leader of the Bhumjaithai Party. Mr. Anutin is pressuring the Kla Tham Party to return the Ministry of Agriculture or face being pushed into the opposition. Mr. Nattapong emphasized that the People's Party is open to working with any party outside the government coalition, asserting that collaboration among opposition parties is vital for scrutinizing the government. He believes that opposition parties can effectively work through the opposition whip mechanism.

Mr. Nattapong arrived at the court at 9:00 AM, accompanied by Mr. Woraphop Wiriyaroj and Mr. Suphachot Chaiyasat, candidates on the party-list for the National Assembly. Supporters also presented Mr. Nattapong with roses as a gesture of solidarity.
