Sa kaeo: The Sa Kaeo border remains tense as Nong Ya Kaeo experiences an eerie calm this morning, with Cambodians maintaining silence after yesterday’s shooting incident.
According to Thai News Agency, reporters stationed at the Thai-Cambodian border in Khok Sung District, Sa Kaeo Province, observed the situation at Ban Nong Ya Kaew. This follows an incident where Cambodian soldiers fired provocatively into Thai territory, prompting the Burapha Force to respond with a warning shot in line with engagement protocols to uphold security at the border.
Currently, the situation is on high alert, with Nong Ya Kaew village showing no significant activity from the Cambodian side. A military source disclosed that no additional Cambodian troops have been mobilized along the border following last night’s disturbances. In the nearby Nong Chan-Nong Ya Kaew area, Cambodian soldiers are present in limited numbers, with no reinforcements seen.
The Burapha Task Force has intensified its surveillance efforts with ground patrols and drones monitoring Ban Nong Ya Kaew and Ban Nong Chan. Initial aerial assessments indicate a quiet scene with no unusual movements from the Cambodian side.
Despite the relative calm, Thai forces are restricted from entering or photographing the border fence area, where tensions remain high. Security assessments are ongoing to prevent further conflicts.
Security sources further report that the Burapha Force is maintaining a strong presence, enhancing surveillance, and conducting continuous patrols to avert any recurrence of such incidents. Residents in border areas, particularly in Nong Ya Kaew and Nong Chan villages, have been advised to keep away from risky border zones and stay updated with official news for safety assurances. Although no gunfire or unrest has been reported this morning, authorities are closely monitoring the sensitive situation following the previous night’s events.
