Bangkok: Thai airspace is prepared to handle the escalating situation in the Middle East. Aeronautical Radio of Thailand (AROT) confirmed that Thai airspace is ready to handle the escalating situation in the Middle East. They urged passengers to check with authorities before traveling, as several airlines have cancelled flights for safety reasons.
According to Thai News Agency, Mr. Surachai Nuphrom, Deputy Managing Director and Acting Managing Director of Aeronautical Radio of Thailand Co., Ltd. (AeroThai), revealed that due to the conflict in the Middle East, involving retaliatory air and missile attacks between Israel and Iran, several countries in the region have closed their airspace, including Iran, Iraq, Bahrain, Qatar, and Kuwait. This situation has affected flights through Middle Eastern airspace, with affected airlines canceling flights to and from airports in the region. However, overall air traffic in Thailand remains operational as airlines closely monitor the situation and plan flight routes in advance to avoid risky areas. AeroThai continues to provide support to ensure smooth flight operations.
Mr. Surachai further stated that Aeronautical Radio of Thailand (AeroThai) has been providing Air Traffic Flow Management (ATFM) services to prepare for the situation involving aircraft flying from Southeast Asia/South Asia through Afghan airspace to Europe/North America. This is being done using the Bay of Bengal Cooperative Air Traffic Flow Management System (BOBCAT), which AeroThai developed in-house. This special operation is in response to requests from relevant countries and airlines regarding the absence of air traffic control agencies on routes through Afghan airspace, as approved by the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO). The aim is to support airline flight planning for safety and efficiency. AeroThai remains committed to fully facilitating regular flights passing through affected areas, including requests for route changes (possibly flying through Afghan airspace and utilizing AeroThai's ATFM service via BOBCAT), requests to return to the originating airport, or emergency landings. Cl ose coordination with all relevant agencies is maintained to ensure safety standards and continuity of air travel. AeroThai will closely monitor the situation and adjust air traffic flow management accordingly, taking into account any limitations on international airspace.
