Thai and Cambodian Ministers Honor Heroes at Ta Kwai, Establish Learning Center

Surin: The Minister of Defence and the Minister of Culture visited the Thai-Cambodian border at Ta Kwai to commemorate the brave heroes, strengthening unity alongside culture, and establishing "Bak Dai" as a learning center, laying the foundation for a sustainable future.

According to Thai News Agency, Lieutenant General Adul Boonthamcharoen, Minister of Defence, presided over a merit-making ceremony to honor the brave heroes and led a delegation in commemorating significant events in the Thai-Cambodian border area. Minister of Culture, Ms. Sabida Thaiseth, also attended the ceremony.

The ceremony took place at the Monument to the Defenders of Thailand, located at Ta Kwai Temple in Phanom Dong Rak District, Surin Province, on Wednesday, April 22, 2026, in an atmosphere filled with peace, solemnity, and a deep appreciation for the sacrifices made for the nation.

This event has a clear objective: to promote eco-tourism, elevate the Bak Dai sub-district into a learning center for arts and culture, while simultaneously preserving national heritage, including valuable historical sites and cultural resources, which are fundamental to the community.

Furthermore, it emphasizes the preservation of local arts, wisdom, and traditions, ensuring they do not fade away with time. It also serves as a remembrance of the brave heroes from the Thai-Cambodian border clashes on April 22, 2011, and the subsequent events between July and December 2015, which remain etched in the memories of the people in the area.

The important schedule includes a wreath-laying ceremony at the Monument to the Defenders of Thailand, a merit-making ceremony, and an inspection of operational areas and significant geographical features along the border.

This is another activity that reflects the significant integration of "security, culture, and community," reinforcing historical memories and laying the foundation for sustainable development in border areas.
