Bangkok: Thai and Cambodian officials held discussions at the RBC (Regional Border Committee) border crossing, reiterating seven approaches to reduce border tensions. According to Thai News Agency, Thailand and Cambodia held discussions with the secretaries of the RBC (Regional Military Border Committee) of Thailand's 2nd Army Region and Cambodia's 4th Military Region, emphasizing seven points to reduce border tensions and combat fake news.
The meeting, hosted at the Chong Sangam permanent border crossing point in Phusing District, Sisaket Province, saw the Secretariat of the Thai-Cambodian Regional Border Committee representing the 2nd Army Area and the 4th Military Region. They discussed and coordinated security measures to determine solutions to problems in the border area. Seven issues were deliberated and coordinated.
Firstly, since the 3rd GBC meeting on December 27, 2025, the secretariats have coordinated 142 times, resolving issues swiftly and peacefully, fostering mutual understanding. Both sides expressed gratitude for the continuous cooperation and efforts to combat fake news from ill-intentioned individuals.
Secondly, appreciation was extended to Cambodia for returning their lost citizen, Mr. Yot Saynoi, on May 15, 1969. This was attributed to the coordinated cooperation under the RBC mechanism between the 2nd and 4th Army Regions, marking a positive sign for future collaboration.
Additionally, units in the Huai Ta Maria area reported hearing 19 explosions in the Khan Ma Pass area from April 2069 onward, with 6 explosions in July 2069. The Thai side confirmed no military operations or explosives were conducted, urging Cambodia to verify with its units to prevent border tension.
Moreover, the Thai side requested Cambodia to refrain from moving troops or establishing operational bases near the barbed wire fence to avoid accidents, which are undesirable for both sides.
Further, there was a call for verifying information when incidents occur along the border to prevent misinformation. Cooperation was requested to foster understanding among the media to reduce fake news.
The Thai government, together with private sector entities, has provided funding for road construction along the border, including explosive ordnance disposal (EOD) equipment and personnel, conducted within the areas controlled by Thailand.
Lastly, both sides were urged to adhere strictly to the GBC's Third Statement issued on December 27, 2025. Any misunderstandings should be reported through the coordination team, which has effectively resolved border issues.
The 2nd Army Area Command emphasized its commitment to negotiation and military coordination mechanisms while safeguarding national sovereignty and interests. It believes that continued cooperation and communication will foster mutual understanding, reduce tensions, and maintain peace and order along the border.
The public was assured that the 2nd Army Area will closely monitor the situation, perform duties with prudence within the framework of the law and relevant agreements, and take necessary measures to protect sovereignty, safety, and national security.
