Bangkok: Lieutenant General Adul Boonthamcharoen, Minister of Defence of Thailand, officially welcomed Admiral Dong Jun, Minister of National Defence of the People's Republic of China, during his visit to Thailand. The visit, which took place from July 23-26, 2026, aimed at strengthening security cooperation between the two countries.

According to Thai News Agency, the Ministry of Defence organized a ceremonial inspection of a combined honor guard from the three branches of the armed forces at their headquarters. This event was part of the celebrations marking the anniversary of Thai-Chinese diplomatic relations. The Thai and Chinese Ministers of Defence engaged in discussions focused on advancing their comprehensive strategic partnership and developing the defense industry.

Key topics included building upon Prime Minister Anutin Charnvirakul's initiative for the World AI Conference 2026 in Shanghai, and discussing strategic cooperation in the defense industry, particularly in the responsible use of artificial intelligence. Cybersecurity and the resolution of the Thai-Cambodian border issue were also significant points of discussion, with both sides emphasizing compliance with international standards and peaceful negotiations.

An agreement was reached to establish a mechanism involving the Minister of Foreign Affairs and the Minister of Defence, designed to serve as a forum for discussing security strategies and combating transnational crime through intelligence exchange and law enforcement.

Following the discussions, Admiral Dong Jun is scheduled to pay a courtesy call on Prime Minister and Minister of Interior Anutin Charnvirakul at the Ivory Room in Thai Khu Fah Building, Government House. The Ministry of Defense will host a reception for the Chinese Minister later in the evening. Additionally, the Chinese Minister will visit the Special Warfare Command in Lopburi Province on Saturday, July 25, 2026.
