Thai Army Clears Over 120,000 Square Meters of Landmines in Ubon Ratchathani

Ubon ratchathani: Authorities have cleared over 120,000 square meters of landmines from the Ubon Ratchathani border, creating a safe zone. The Thai army is cracking down on landmines along the border in Ubon Ratchathani, having already cleared over 120,000 square meters of land, with over 60% remaining to be cleared. According to Thai News Agency, on March 28, 2026, the Royal Thai Armed Forces Headquarters (RTARF HQ), through the National Mine Action Center (NMAC), conducted mine clearance and removal operations in the Nam Yuen area, Song Subdistrict, Nam Yuen District, Ubon Ratchathani Province, to reduce hazardous areas along the Thai-Cambodian border. The operation covered a total area of 331,104 square meters, resulting in an additional 5,151 square meters being deemed safe. One unexploded ordnance (UXO) was discovered: a 120-millimeter mortar round. Officials safely secured and moved it to a designated explosive ordnance disposal area. This brings the total number of unexploded ordnance discovered to t wo. In summary, current efforts have resulted in a safe area of 122,296 square meters, representing 36.94% of the total area. This leaves 208,808 square meters, or 63.06%, still requiring action. This mission reflects the commitment of the Royal Thai Armed Forces Command and the National Mine Action Center to eliminate the threat of landmines in order to restore safety and security to the people in border areas.
