Bangkok: The Third Army Region is maintaining heightened vigilance along the Thai-Myanmar border following reports of bombings by the Myanmar military on the opposite side. Thai soldiers are actively managing the situation to ensure the safety of the local population.
According to Thai News Agency, Lieutenant General Worathep Boonyah, commander of the 3rd Army Area, disclosed that the Myanmar military has dropped several bombs on the U Nu Tha camp, which is situated in the border area between Mae Sam Laep and Ban Tha Ta Fang in Mae Hong Son Province. The extent of the damage from these bombings remains unknown. In response, the village headman of Mae Sam Laep has recommended that villagers seek refuge in Ban Huai Kong Ka for their safety.
Reports indicate that two unidentified aircraft released nine bombs on the U Myat Hospital (KNU Clinic) in Myanmar, located at coordinates LV643918. While details of the damage are yet to be confirmed, the headman of Mae Sam Laep village has initiated the evacuation of residents in the vicinity to ensure their safety.
Fortunately, no artillery shells from Myanmar have landed on the Thai side. However, shrapnel from the explosions did hit the roofs of Thai civilian homes, resulting in minor damage, but no injuries have been reported.
Military personnel, police, administrative officials, and local government officers are closely monitoring the situation. They are prepared to evacuate people, including vulnerable groups such as girls and the elderly, to secure locations as a precautionary measure.
The Singhanat Task Force of the Naresuan Command has been in communication with the Myanmar military, stressing the need for caution in the use of artillery or aircraft for bombing to prevent accidental landings on the Thai side.
