Buriram: The Commander of Army Region 2 has announced that construction has begun on a fence along the Thai-Cambodian border in key tactical areas. The initiative underscores a focus on self-defense and personnel safety, emphasizing that the safety of soldiers is directly linked to the safety of the populace.
According to Thai News Agency, Lt. Gen. Wirayut Raksin, Commander of the Second Army Region, provided insights into the project during a visit to a military base in Buriram Province. He was accompanied by Prime Minister and Interior Minister Anutin Charnvirakul. Lt. Gen. Raksin elaborated that the fence will not solely be composed of barbed wire but will incorporate other security elements, including CCTV cameras for enhanced nighttime surveillance.
Lt. Gen. Raksin clarified that the fence construction will initially target strategically important areas rather than the entire border. He stressed that this phased approach is crucial for focusing on immediate self-protection and ensuring the safety of troops. The long-term expansion of the fence will be addressed in the future, guided by the principle that the safety of soldiers ensures the safety of citizens.
