Thai Chamber of Commerce Urges Swift Resolution to Political Uncertainty Amid Economic Concerns

Bangkok: The Thai Chamber of Commerce has expressed concerns over the ongoing political uncertainty, which it believes could exacerbate the existing economic crisis. The president of the chamber emphasized the need for political stability, warning that prolonged government formation processes could adversely impact the economy. He remains hopeful that the situation will become clearer by the afternoon. The chamber has stressed that the private sector is indifferent to which political faction forms the government, but it urges a swift resolution.

According to Thai News Agency, Dr. Poj Aramwattananon, Chairman of the Thai Chamber of Commerce and Board of Trade of Thailand, discussed the Prachachon Party’s support for the Bhumjaithai Party in forming a government, while noting the possibility of the Pheu Thai Party dissolving Parliament. He acknowledged the tense political atmosphere and anticipated more clarity later in the day.

The private sector’s primary concern is not the political alignment but the speed of resolution, as any delay could lead to further economic instability. The Thai economy is currently challenged by declining domestic purchasing power, high household debt, US trade tariffs, global geopolitical tensions, and border issues with neighboring countries. Dr. Poj highlighted the importance of having leaders who can work collaboratively across all sectors to formulate effective economic measures.

Foreign investors and Thai entrepreneurs are watching the situation closely, as it has direct implications for business operations, investments, and the tourism industry. The private sector advocates for a competent cabinet with respected personnel capable of managing the country and revitalizing the economy during this precarious time.

The Joint Standing Committee on Private Sectors (JSCPC) convened this morning to monitor and evaluate the situation. The private sector aims to see a capable government that can address the economic challenges and stabilize the country.
