Bangkok: Oba, with his distinctive accent, along with other comedians, participated in a mass ordination ceremony as a merit-making act dedicated to Her Majesty Queen Mother Sirikit.
According to Thai News Agency, the Thai Comedians Association organized this commendable project to honor Her Majesty Queen Sirikit, the Queen Mother, on December 20, 2025, at Wat Rang Man, Rang Phikul Subdistrict, Kamphaeng Saen District, Nakhon Pathom Province. The ordination also serves as a tribute to the late Phra Rajamongkol Wachirakom (Luang Pu Phaew Pavaro) of Wat Rang Man, who passed away on December 17, 2025, at the age of 103. A total of 64 comedians, led by the President of the Thai Comedians Association, Oba Siangnoe, and Gift Khokkhun, along with members of the public, participated in the 9-day ordination, which will conclude on December 28, 2025. Many celebrities also attended the ceremony, including Ong Salakjit, Tosapol Himmapan, Jare Chernyim, and others.
Before the ordination ceremony began at 9:09 AM, representatives from the Comedians’ Association, Oba Siangner and Gift Khokkhun, spoke about the event. They explained that mass ordinations by the comedians’ association are not new, dating back to 1995, when they ordained in honor of Her Majesty Queen Sirikit, the Queen Mother. During that era of flourishing caf©s, over 100 comedians participated, with a traditional blessing ceremony held in the middle of Sanam Luang. The ordination lasted nine days at Wat Phanang Cheong. This time, although the number of comedians has decreased, the association is giving the opportunity to the public, government officials, and disciples to participate, totaling 64 monks, to dedicate merit to Her Majesty Queen Sirikit, the Queen Mother, and also to honor Luang Pu Phaew Pavaro, a renowned monk from Nakhon Pathom who had always been kind to the comedians’ association and had recently passed away.
Oba mentioned that many friends and colleagues in the entertainment industry joined in the merit-making, including Ja Nongphanee, who, despite having a concert schedule, contributed financially and sent her best wishes. Mum Jokmok attended the hair-shaving ceremony and participated in the bathing of the novice monk, offering words of encouragement. P’ Note Chernyim, despite being over 70 and having difficulty driving, called to inquire about the time so he could personally attend the ceremony. Both Oba Siangner and Gift Khokkhun expressed their pride in being ordained for Her Majesty Queen Sri Savangavadhana, His Majesty King Bhumibol Adulyadej, and now Her Majesty Queen Sirikit, considering it a fulfilling life.
Oba continued, saying that this was the most important time in his life. He encouraged Thai people to love one another, avoid quarrels, and be compassionate. The ordination is scheduled to end on December 28th, with candidates focusing on meditation, silence, and refraining from social media for nine days. Later, the candidates, who are comedians, performed a ceremony to ask for forgiveness and permission to be ordained from Note Chernyim, a senior figure in the comedy industry, before the procession and the ordination ceremony began.
Anoat Chernyim shared his appreciation for the mass ordination ceremony with Nine Entertainment, expressing his joy at seeing the continued love and reverence for the monarchy among Thais. He believes this ordination benefits everyone, both in and outside the comedy industry. As a senior figure in the comedy industry, he was proud to witness this meaningful event.
When asked about applying the royal initiatives of Her Majesty Queen Sirikit to his life, Note Chernyim emphasized compassion as a guiding principle. He reflected on how Her Majesty’s compassion serves as a moral guide in his life and career. He expressed pride in advising others, drawing inspiration from Her Majesty’s efforts to provide livelihoods for Thai people through the Royal Arts and Crafts Center.
Regarding carrying on His Majesty’s royal aspirations, Note Chernyim expressed his willingness to contribute discreetly. He pledged support for large-scale projects as an artist, participating in events like fundraising for the Royal Arts and Crafts Center. He aims to preserve His Majesty’s arts and crafts, applying teachings like “gilding the back of the Buddha statue” to his own life.
