Thai FDA and USDA Strengthen Ties Through Bangkok Port Study Visit

Bangkok: The Thai Food and Drug Administration (FDA) recently hosted a delegation from the Agricultural Attach© Office of the U.S. Embassy in Thailand (USDA) at Bangkok Port, marking a significant step in enhancing cooperation and building confidence in food safety between Thailand and the United States.

According to Thai News Agency, the event was organized by the FDA in collaboration with the Customs Department and the Department of Livestock Development. The purpose of the study visit was to exchange knowledge and experiences in food regulation, with the aim of improving understanding of import inspection systems. This initiative seeks to upgrade Thailand's imported food quality control system to international standards, thereby boosting consumer confidence.

On August 19, 2026, Dr. Suparit Hengkravit, Deputy Secretary-General of the FDA, represented the agency in welcoming the USDA delegation. The visit included presentations on food import processes and the operations of relevant government agencies. Discussions were held to share information on food regulatory systems and to address queries related to the food import process.

The USDA delegation had the opportunity to observe real-time operational procedures at Bangkok Port, witnessing the stages from import and inspection to the coordination between involved agencies. Dr. Suparit Hengkravit highlighted the importance of this visit as a platform for exchanging knowledge and experiences, which will contribute to the continuous development of Thailand's food regulatory system and promote mutual understanding of operational guidelines between the two countries.
