New delhi: The Minister of Foreign Affairs has taken steps to inform India about the ongoing situation at the Thai-Cambodian border. During his visit to India from November 30 to December 1, 2025, Mr. Sihasak Phuangketkeaw, Minister of Foreign Affairs, emphasized the need to clarify the circumstances surrounding the border tensions and the reasons behind the suspension of the agreement with Malaysia.

According to Thai News Agency, Mr. Sihasak explained that the persistent issue of landmines has led to the suspension. Highlighting a recent incident where a Chinese national was injured after stepping on a landmine while illegally entering the country, he expressed concern and called for Cambodian cooperation in demining efforts. He stressed the importance of Cambodia taking responsibility and participating in demarcation efforts to resolve encroachments.

Mr. Sihasak also disclosed plans to propose the formation of an independent committee at the Ottawa Convention Conference in Geneva. This committee would aim to investigate the circumstances on the ground and uphold transparency, preventing Cambodia from providing evasive explanations. The decision on the committee’s composition, including potential participation from Japan, will be determined at the upcoming conference.
