New york city: Maris Sengiampong, Thailand’s Foreign Minister, addressed the United Nations to clarify the recent tensions between Thailand and Cambodia. During his visit to the UN Headquarters for the High-Level Political Forum on Sustainable Development 2025 (HLPF2025), Maris highlighted that Thailand was initially attacked by Cambodia, asserting that Cambodian forces violated Thai sovereignty by targeting civilian areas and hospitals.

According to Thai News Agency, the Foreign Minister, accompanied by a Thai delegation, attended the annual HLPF2025 at the UN. This forum is crucial for monitoring and accelerating the implementation of the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development. Maris took this opportunity to bring attention to the conflict with Cambodia, emphasizing the urgency and seriousness of the situation.

Mr. Jirayu Huangsap, a Government Spokesperson and NBTC Board Member, conveyed that Maris planned a video call meeting with Thai agencies to discuss evacuation plans for Thai citizens and investors in Cambodia. The Foreign Minister aimed to ensure the international community comprehended Thailand’s stance and the evidence indicating Cambodian forces’ breach of international law by targeting civilians, including hospitals and public areas.
