Thai Golfers Aim for Gold at the 2026 Asian Games in Japan

Bangkok: The Golf Association of Thailand aims to maintain its position as Asia's number one golfer and pursue a gold medal at the 2026 Asian Games in Japan.

According to Thai News Agency, Mr. Rangsarit Laksitanon, President of the Golf Association of Thailand, chaired the 2026 Annual General Meeting. The meeting reviewed the golden year achieved by the Thai national golf team, which swept all four gold medals at the 33rd SEA Games, and planned for the 20th Asian Games, to be held in Japan from September 30th to October 3rd. The President highlighted the team's outstanding performance last year, noting that they won gold medals in all categories at the SEA Games for the first time in 10 years. He also praised the world-class achievements of Pongsapak Laopakdee ("FIFA"), who qualified for the Masters and The Open Championships, as well as the success of Thai junior golfers who won championships in major tournaments across Asia, including in South Korea, Japan, Singapore, and Malaysia.

This year's main goal is the Asian Games, and the association is carefully considering its readiness, as the competition regulations allow for the participation of professional golfers. They are currently deciding whether to field a national team of amateur or professional golfers to create the strongest possible team for medal winning.

The association is preparing a plan to send the Asian Games preparation team to train at Kasugai Country Club (East Course), the actual competition venue in Japan, in advance. This is to familiarize them with the course and weather conditions, aiming to gain an advantage in order to maintain the same standard of winning 2 gold medals and 1 silver medal as they did at the 2022 Asian Games in China.
