Thai Government Advocates for Modernized Civil Service and Open Data Center

Bangkok: The Speaker of the House of Representatives emphasized the need to modernize the civil service system during a seminar on “Aiming for Open Government and Driving Data Center to Occur in Thailand.” The Speaker highlighted that opening the civil service system, beyond the government alone, is essential for modernization.

According to Thai News Agency, Mr. Wan Muhammad Noor Matha, President of the National Assembly, presided over the seminar, underscoring the importance of transparency and accessibility in government operations. He stated that the success of an open government relies on the entire civil service system, not just the cabinet. Drawing parallels with Singapore, he stressed that a dynamic civil service system is crucial for transparency.

During the seminar, references were made to former Thai Prime Minister MR Kukrit Pramoj, who likened the Thai bureaucracy to a banyan tree and city wall, emphasizing their inseparable nature. The Speaker advocated for a holistic approach to harness the full potential of the country and its citizens, highlighting that the system is as significant as the policy itself.

The seminar also touched upon the transformation of the Data Center to a digital AI system, stressing the importance of transparency and protection systems. The Speaker noted that, while Data Centers are globally used, Thailand faces more challenges compared to other countries. Ensuring an effective system and protection mechanisms are imperative for harnessing the benefits while mitigating the disadvantages.

The Speaker assured that the seminar’s outcomes would be presented to the government, aiding future national advancement. He extended his congratulations to Mr. Chusak Sirinil, Minister to the Prime Minister’s Office, who will further this initiative. The Speaker humorously urged Mr. Chusak to diligently oversee the DSI, expressing confidence in his capability to uphold transparency.

Mr. Chusak Sirinil subsequently delivered a lecture on the seminar’s theme to students of the National Defense Course (NDC) Class 67, Academic Year 2024 – 2025, reiterating the commitment to an open government and advanced Data Center in Thailand.
