Bangkok: The Treasury has signed an agreement to receive a grant from the Asian Development Bank (ADB) worth US$2 million to mitigate the impact of flooding in Songkhla province. The Ministry of Finance will utilize the funds to restore damaged infrastructure and aid recovery efforts in the region.
According to Thai News Agency, Ms. Jindarat Viriyathaveekul, Director of the Public Debt Management Office, announced that on June 26, 2026, the Minister of Finance formalized the agreement with ADB. The grant, approved by the Cabinet on June 23, 2026, will be allocated specifically to address the aftermath of devastating floods that hit Songkhla Province in 2025.
The recovery efforts will focus on several key areas: procuring replacement medical equipment for Hat Yai Hospital through the Ministry of Public Health, enhancing the Songkhla Provincial Public Health Office's capacity, repairing shelter buildings, and providing financial assistance to vulnerable households. These initiatives will be overseen by local authorities to ensure aid reaches those most in need.
Ms. Jindarat emphasized the severe impact of the 2025 floods on Songkhla Province, which disrupted lives, communities, and essential services, particularly in Hat Yai District. She noted that the grant from ADB is vital for restoring basic services and alleviating the burdens faced by affected populations. The cooperation between the Thai government and ADB highlights a commitment to effective disaster management, relief, and recovery.
The Ministry of Finance, through the Public Debt Management Office, will coordinate with relevant agencies to implement these measures transparently and efficiently, aligning with both the APDRF fund's objectives and Thai regulations.
