Thai Industries and Reporters Promote Circular Economy to Transform Waste into Income

Bangkok: The Federation of Thai Industries (FTI) and the Economic Reporters Association are spearheading an initiative to promote a circular economy that transforms waste into income for communities. This effort is being carried out in collaboration with the Plastics Industry Group and involves field visits to observe waste management processes from community waste sorting to recycling.

According to Thai News Agency, this initiative led by FTI and the Economic Reporters Association focuses on turning used plastic into raw materials for re-manufacturing new plastic pellets in Rayong Province. The aim is to systematically address waste management and demonstrate how recycling can generate income for households and communities. Mr. Thititham Pongpanangam, President of the Plastic Industry Club of FTI, emphasized that properly managed plastic waste can be a source of revenue, especially for plastics that are difficult to decompose. Community groups in Thailand are already organizing waste sorting and selling it to recycling plants, which has reduced plastic waste and eased the burden of waste collection.

The initiative included visits to several key locations. The Wang Wa Waste Management Community in Klaeng District showcased how community members transform plastic waste into value-added products like bags and brooms, which create jobs and income. The Circular Economy Innovation Center for Integrated Recycling and Processing serves as a hub for receiving, sorting, and recycling plastic materials using advanced technology. Additionally, Circular Plas Co., Ltd.’s recycling plant, a subsidiary of SCG Chemicals Public Company Limited, converts used plastic into recycled feedstock for new plastic pellets, adhering to international quality standards, promoting resource efficiency, and reducing accumulated waste and global warming.
