Bangkok: The Thai Massage Therapists Association has made an official appeal to Parliament, requesting support for their inclusion in the "Thai Helps Thai Plus" initiative. This move aims to secure equal rights and opportunities for Thai massage professionals, aligning them with other businesses benefiting from the government's economic assistance programs.
According to Thai News Agency, representatives of the Thai Massage Therapists Association, led by lawyer Ms. Kwanchonok Charoenathanathip and President Mr. Nopporn Wisuthsakchai, submitted two formal letters at the Parliament Building. The letters, addressed to Mr. Supakit Sihapak, a Member of Parliament from the Bhumjaithai Party, and Mr. Pasin Pitutecha, the Sixth Vice Chairman of the Economic Development Committee, emphasized the need for the massage sector's inclusion in the "Thai Helps Thai Plus" project.
The government has been running the "Thai Helps Thai Plus" project to provide economic support to various sectors, aiming to alleviate public expenses and boost business income, thereby enhancing the national economy. However, the Thai Massage Association highlighted that their professionals have not been granted the same opportunities within the project, leading to missed benefits. The association is urging the Prime Minister to consider their inclusion, ensuring fair treatment alongside other businesses.
Mr. Pasin Pitutecha commented on the submission, noting his commitment to prioritizing public interest as a member of the Economic Development Committee. He expressed openness to collaboration across political lines, emphasizing the importance of data sharing and policy implementation to benefit the public. He acknowledged the need for a comprehensive review of project criteria to include both legal entities and individuals.
Mr. Supakit Sihapak addressed the challenges faced by massage parlors due to their exclusion from the "Thai Helps Thai" project. He acknowledged that most massage establishments are small to medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) deserving of government support and welfare access. As a ruling party MP, he pledged to discuss potential solutions with the government and seek ways to include massage parlors in the program.
The association's appeal highlights the significant operational costs faced by massage parlors, including utilities and labor, and calls for government intervention to ensure accessible support programs. This issue will be further debated with government officials to explore potential resolutions.
