Thai Ministry of Interior Conducts Nationwide Workshops to Preserve Thai Textiles and Handicrafts

Bangkok: The Ministry of Interior recently organized six workshops across the country focused on enhancing and developing the intellectual heritage of Thai textiles and handicrafts, aligning with the initiative of Princess Sirivannavari Nariratana Rajakanya.

According to Thai News Agency, these workshops were orchestrated by the Ministry of Interior through the Office of the Permanent Secretary and the Community Development Department. Conducted from August 29 to October 2, 2025, the workshops aimed to disseminate Princess Sirivannavari’s vision for preserving and expanding the intellectual heritage of Thai textiles and handicrafts, ensuring their sustainability.

This initiative supports the royal project “Thai Fabric: Fun to Wear,” which seeks to popularize Thai fabrics among all demographics, combining traditional beauty with modern fashion for everyday wear. This strategy is integral for community empowerment, income generation, and the promotion of sustainable fashion using natural fibers and dyes.

The workshops featured prominent figures from the textile and fashion industries, including experts like Dr. Sarinda Chamornman and renowned designers such as Thanantrat Thanasetkarn and Sirichai Thaharanon. They shared insights into areas like design, weaving, natural dyeing, tailoring, and marketing, equipping participants to enhance the quality and value of their products.

A video showcasing Princess Sirivannavari’s efforts to promote Thai handicrafts globally was presented, alongside the publication of a book celebrating her contributions to contemporary Thai fabrics and handicrafts on her 39th birthday.

These workshops have been pivotal in embedding the Royal Initiative “Fun to Wear Thai Fabrics” into local practices, fostering cooperation between various sectors and promoting public engagement in elevating Thai textiles and handicrafts to international prominence.
