Thai Oil and Department of Energy Sign MOU to Advance Solar Energy for Public Institutions

Bangkok: Thai Oil, in collaboration with the Department of Energy (DOE), signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) to develop, improve, and promote the use of renewable energy from solar power, aiming to enhance and create a model of public-private partnership.

According to Thai News Agency, Thai Oil Public Company Limited and the Department of Alternative Energy Development and Efficiency (DEDE) of the Ministry of Energy have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) on "Cooperation in the Development, Improvement, and Promotion of Renewable Energy from Solar Power for Public Health and Educational Institutions." This initiative aims to create energy security in remote areas and drive Thailand towards its goal of net-zero greenhouse gas emissions. The signing ceremony took place at the Energy Complex in Bangkok.

Mr. Pongphan Amornvivat, Chief Executive Officer and President of Thai Oil Public Company Limited, stated that Thai Oil conducts its business alongside social and environmental responsibility. It prioritizes energy efficiency and continuously promotes renewable energy. Furthermore, the company aims to drive towards a Net Zero future by 2050 through systematic reduction, offsetting, and control of greenhouse gas emissions. Since 2018, Thai Oil has contributed renewable energy to society through projects installing solar power systems for public health facilities and educational institutions. Thai Oil's engineering team has utilized their knowledge and experience to survey, design, and install solar cell systems for hospitals and schools in various areas, and has also transferred maintenance skills to local personnel. In total, over 24 locations have been equipped with a total installed capacity of 492.48 kilowatts, reducing greenhouse gas emissions by over 428 tons of carbon dioxide equivalent per year. By 202 6, Thai Oil aims to expand installations by an additional 11 locations, with a total installed capacity of 146 kilowatts, in the Northeast region and Chonburi province.

The signing of this Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with the Department of Alternative Energy Development and Efficiency (DEDE) today reflects the synergy and collaboration between the public and private sectors to expand and improve access to renewable energy in remote and underserved areas. This also serves as a joint effort to drive Thailand towards its sustainable net-zero greenhouse gas emission target. Ms. Nanthika Thangsupanich, Director-General of DEDE, stated that under the government's policy promoting clean energy and universal energy access, the collaboration between DEDE and Thai Oil is a significant step in driving renewable energy development and improving the quality of life for people in remote areas. Thai Oil and DEDE will work closely together, including transferring knowledge and skills in basic solar power system maintenance to personnel in these areas. This will create a long-term self-reliant energy management model. This cooperation framework will cover the selection of hospitals, pu blic health facilities, and public schools in need. DEDE will provide academic support, basic data, and engineering guidelines, while Thai Oil will contribute resources, technology, and the design and installation of solar cell systems that meet safety standards. Along with transferring system maintenance skills to personnel and communities in the area, Thai Oil and the Department of Energy are confident that this public-private partnership will serve as a transparent, verifiable model and a good example of cooperation in the future.
