Thai police launch extensive search for missing 8-month-old baby

Police, volunteers and officials from the Mirror Foundation launched an extensive search around a village in Bang Luang sub-district in Nakhon Pathom Province today (Sunday), looking for traces of an 8-month-old baby who went missing from home last Sunday.

The parents of the infant joined the search of the area, part of which is covered with thick grass.

Previous searches of waterways near the village and by drone have failed to find any clues as to the whereabouts of the child.

Forensics officers from Bang Luang sub-district searched the parents’ house again today. They took the baby’s blanket for examination. A few days ago, police found a tiny blood stain on the baby’s pillow, but the mother claimed that it was from a mouth wound.

Police suspect that the young couple might be responsible for the disappearance of their own child, by selling him or taking him to someone. The mother claims, however, that her child might have been kidnapped from their home when she fell asleep.

Police have checked the bank accounts of the couple for suspicious transactions and examined the mother’s smart phone, on which they found some Line Chat messages which had been deleted.

A villager has told the police that he saw a man in a yellow shirt, riding on a pickup truck, leave the village last Sunday.
