Thai Police Utilize Lion Dance Disguise to Capture Notorious Burglar

Thai police: Thai police successfully apprehended a serial burglar on Wednesday after deploying an elaborate undercover ruse where officers disguised themselves as a traditional lion dance troupe at a temple fair. The suspect, 33-year-old Adisak, known by the alias "Jojo," was arrested in Nonthaburi province on charges of burglary and trespassing following a high-profile series of home break-ins.

According to Thai News Agency, the investigation was launched after a senior police colonel's residence in the Pracha Chuen area was targeted three times in three days starting February 4. The suspect allegedly stole Buddhist amulets and other valuables with an estimated total value of more than 2 million baht. During the final break-in, the suspect managed to evade a police stakeout, reportedly smiling at a CCTV camera as he fled the scene.

After tracking the suspect's movements and the sale of the stolen amulets, investigators discovered that Adisak, an undocumented individual with a history of nine criminal offenses, intended to meet fellow drug users at a temple. To avoid another pursuit, undercover officers embedded themselves within a lion dance performance at the temple fair. The "dancers" gradually closed in on the suspect under the guise of the performance before making the arrest.

During police interrogation, Adisak confessed to the crimes, stating that he had lived as a vagrant since the age of 11 and was unable to find legal work due to his lack of a national identification card. He claimed the thefts were motivated by the need to fund a methamphetamine habit and gambling debts. Regarding the CCTV footage, the suspect denied mocking the authorities, asserting that his expression was a result of physical exhaustion from running. He remains in custody pending further legal proceedings.
