Thai Politicians Cleared of Cambodian Scammer Allegations

Bangkok: Government spokesman clarified that the news is fake: “Thai politicians are involved in a scammer ring in Cambodia.” The Ministry of Foreign Affairs has investigated and confirmed that the South Korean government has not provided such information.

According to Thai News Agency, Prime Minister’s Office spokesman Siripong Angkasakulkiat clarified that the news was “fake news” following reports that some media outlets had published, claiming that the South Korean Prime Minister had revealed the names of seven Thai politicians involved in call centers and scammer gangs in Cambodia. The Ministry of Foreign Affairs, through the Royal Thai Embassy in Seoul, confirmed that the information was untrue and that there were no sources or statements from the South Korean government that had made such statements.

A government spokesperson revealed that the Embassy of the Republic of Korea in Thailand has issued an official statement, clearly stating that “The article by Thansettakij News Agency dated October 19, 2025, which reported that the South Korean Prime Minister mentioned seven Thai politicians involved in a scam case in Cambodia, is not true.” He also confirmed that the South Korean government will take appropriate action against the fake news to protect the accuracy of the information and the reputation of the individuals implicated.

“I would like to reaffirm that the government and Prime Minister Anutin are seriously prioritizing the suppression of scammers and all forms of transnational crime. They have stated to Parliament that this is one of their four urgent policies, and that they will take decisive legal action against anyone involved in this criminal process,” said Mr. Siripong.
