Thai Researchers Triumph at JDIE 2026 with Seven Awards for Nuclear Technology Innovations

Osaka: The National Institute of Nuclear Technology (Public Organization), or NINT, has proudly announced its researchers' success at the Japan Design, Idea and Invention Expo 2026 (JDIE 2026) held in Osaka, Japan. The Thai team secured seven awards for three innovation projects, showcasing Thailand's research capabilities on an international stage.

According to Thai News Agency, the competition was organized by the National Research Council of Thailand (NRCT) and allowed Thai researchers to present their innovative work under the auspices of the World Invention Intellectual Property Associations (WIIPA) in collaboration with Chizai Corporation of Japan. The event featured over 300 entries from more than 20 countries.

The award-winning innovations from NINT included:

1. OhPhotocatTINT: This intelligent platform technology involves the sol-gel irradiation-enhanced synthesis of silver/titanium dioxide doped hybrid nanoparticles for photocatalytic wastewater treatment under visible light. Led by Dr. Sakchai Laksri, the project earned a Gold Medal Award, a Special Award from the Indonesia Invention and Innovation Promotion Association, and an NRCT Honorable Mention Award.

2. GammaHyacinth EcoPot: A biodegradable plant pot made from gamma-irradiated water hyacinth. The project, headed by Dr. Lamai Maikaew, garnered the Silver Medal Award and the NRCT Honorable Mention Award.

3. ChitoBooster: A nano-chitosan aquatic animal feed supplement designed to boost immunity, disease resistance, and promote growth in aquatic animals. Under the leadership of Dr. Thitirat Rattanawongwibul, it received the Gold Medal Award and the NRCT Special Award.

This achievement underscores the potential of NINT researchers in developing internationally recognized knowledge and innovations in nuclear and radiation technology. It also highlights Thailand's commitment to advancing research and innovation towards practical applications, contributing to economic growth, enhancing the quality of life, and supporting sustainable national development.
