Thai SEC Investigates Binance Cybersecurity Incident for Impact on Thai Customers’ Assets

Bangkok:The Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) of Thailand has reported that no significant impact has been detected on the assets of Thai customers in connection with unusual transactions on Binance.

According to Thai News Agency, the SEC is actively monitoring the suspected cybersecurity incident at Binance Global following reports of abnormal digital asset transactions valued at billions of dollars. Consequently, Binance Thailand has temporarily halted deposits and withdrawals as part of an investigation into the system. Initial assessments have shown no significant impact on the assets of Thai customers.

The SEC is coordinating with licensed digital asset operators to evaluate the potential risks and impacts of the incident on customer assets. These operators are required to report their control measures and strategies for reducing the impact to the SEC. Businesses are expected to protect client assets in accordance with SEC regulations, which include using secure digital asset custody systems and limiting asset storage in systems connected to external networks to mitigate cybersecurity risks.

The SEC has instructed business operators to continuously monitor the situation, assess risks, verify the safety of customers' assets, and promptly report any incidents that may affect customer property or service. Furthermore, the SEC emphasizes the importance of providing accurate and timely information to customers about any impacts or limitations on service provision.

The SEC will continue to coordinate with relevant businesses to ensure effective risk management and the safeguarding of client assets. Investors are advised to seek information from official channels and use services only from licensed businesses listed on the SEC's website. They should also be cautious of rumors and fraudulent claims aiming to deceive individuals into transferring assets. For further inquiries, the SEC's Complaint and Whistleblowing Center can be contacted at 1207.

This incident occurred on an overseas Binance platform not supervised by the SEC of Thailand. Therefore, the SEC's focus remains on businesses licensed under its jurisdiction and protecting the assets of investors using services from these businesses.
