Thai Snooker Team Dominates 33rd SEA Games with Six Gold Medals

Bangkok: Thai snooker players swept 6 gold medals, clinching the overall title at the 33rd SEA Games. “Mink Saraburi” and “Korn Nakhon Pathom” were among the standout performers, concluding the tournament with a total of 6 gold medals, securing the overall SEA Games title for Thailand.

According to Thai News Agency, the women’s 15-red snooker final at the SEA Games was held at Thunderdome, Muang Thong Thani, and played best of 5 frames. The event was attended by notable figures including former Deputy Prime Minister and Chairman of the Billiard Sports Association of Thailand, Mr. Somsak Thepsutin, and President of the Association, Mr. Sunthorn Charumong.

“Mink Saraburi” Natchararat Wongharuthai, the world number one, secured a gold medal in the women’s 15-red team event by defeating “Mind Sakon” Panchaya Channoi, the U-21 World Champion, in a 3-1 frames victory (75-7, 39-91, 58-49, and 65-58), marking her second gold medal at the SEA Games. After her victory, Mink expressed satisfaction with her performance, albeit acknowledging it was slightly below her usual standard. She aims to maintain her world number one ranking and hopes to win more gold medals for Thailand in future representations.

In the men’s 15-red snooker event, “Korn Nakhon Pathom” Phasakorn Suwanwattana triumphed over “Nook Songkhla” Kritsanas Lertsattayathorn with a 4-2 frames win (48-61, 50-55, 100-34, 63-1, 73-62, and 70-17), earning his first gold medal.

“Big Hong” Mr. Sunthorn Jarumong, President of the Association, remarked that the next SEA Games in Malaysia will exclude women’s snooker due to Thailand’s dominance in the sport within ASEAN. He highlighted the historic achievement of six gold medals in this tournament, securing the overall gold medal tally.

The medal presentation ceremony was led by Mr. Somsak Thepsutin and Mr. Sunthorn Charumong, summarizing the Thai snooker team’s success with 6 gold and 4 silver medals at this SEA Games.
