Thai UN Mission Rebuts Cambodia Over Indiscriminate Shelling

New york: Thailand rebutted Cambodia at the UN forum, stating that Cambodia’s indiscriminate armed attacks have killed civilians and violated international humanitarian law. During a UN Security Council open session on December 15, Minister Counsellor of the Permanent Mission of Thailand to the United Nations in New York, Ratchada Suthepakul countered what she labeled as Cambodia’s false information regarding the ongoing border dispute.

According to Thai News Agency, she detailed that the sustained shelling since December 7, 2025, has forced over 400,000 people to flee, caused the closure of nearly 400 schools, and shut down over 200 health facilities. Thailand stated these acts as a clear violation of international humanitarian law, affirming that it must exercise its inherent right to self-defense under Article 51 of the UN Charter to protect its sovereignty and citizens.

The Thai delegation linked the recent hostile actions to two key events: the presentation of video evidence to the Ottawa Convention parties showing Cambodian soldiers newly planting landmines, and the seizure of billions of U.S. dollars in assets from Cambodian nationals implicated in scam operations and closely associated with the Cambodian leadership. Thailand concluded by stating it remains ready for constructive peace action, provided Cambodia fulfills its obligations and demonstrates genuine sincerity and good faith by ceasing all hostile and provocative acts.
