Bangkok: The Thai women’s saber fencing team emerged victorious against Singapore, securing their second SEA Games championship and the first gold medal for Thai fencing at this year’s event. Meanwhile, the Thai speed skating team celebrated their triumph in the mixed men’s-women’s relay, a newly introduced event at the SEA Games.
According to Thai News Agency, the fencing competition took place at Fashion Island, where three gold medals were contested. In the women’s saber team final, the Thai team, spearheaded by Tonkhao Phokaew, a silver medalist in the women’s individual saber event, alongside Bandita Srinuannad, Punyanuch Pitakduangkamol, and Arisara Somphao, defeated Singapore with a score of 45-32. This victory marked the Thai team’s first gold medal in fencing at this SEA Games and their second SEA Games championship. Additionally, Thailand secured a silver medal in the women’s ©p©e team event, falling to defending champions Singapore with a score of 36-45. The Thai fencing team expressed their joy following their championship win.
Meanwhile, at Imperial World Samrong, the Thai speed skating team participated in the mixed 2,000-meter relay final, a first-time event at the SEA Games. Despite an injury to “M” Chonlachat Taprom, “Prite” Jirawat Pholkaj joined forces with “Pangya” Atiya Jaimpaetchanraya and the Chatthaisong sisters, “Meena” Thanatchaya and “Smart” Thanatcha. The team clinched their first gold medal with a time of 2 minutes 54.442 seconds, with Indonesia taking silver and Singapore bronze.
“Meena” Thanatchaya Chatthaisong expressed her pride in the team’s performance and her personal ambition to win gold medals in all her events, as she prepares to compete in the 500m, 1,500m, and the women’s 3,000m relay tomorrow.
